Prometheus

Saw Prometheus few weeks back. It was good movie, could have been better written. Way too many plot holes. Like how could possibly the geologist get lost? They never heard about inertial guidance systems? No data from the bots? Or when you run away from falling object that is much longer then wide they never heard that you should run across? Or you travel tons of light years away it turns out that  your auto surgeon is missing programs? What they are saving on weight requirements? And etc etc. way too many plot devices.

MIB 3

I saw MIB 3 yesterday; it was ok. Still entertaining but not as much as the previous two.

Sucker Punch

Sucker Punch was huge disappointment to me. The "missions" were interesting, the tie in using mental institution/brothel thing was pointless and a joy killer. I would have been more satisfied with the movie of them just playing a game (as it is done in "Assault Girls" or "Serial Experiments Lain").

Black Swan

Black Swan was really interesting. You get into the world of a young aspiring ballerina, the training and the stress involved in search of perfection. Straight from the opening you get a hint that things are not quite the way you see them, and as the movie progresses you witness her deepening schizophrenia. Until what is real and what not completely blurs and her world completely falls apart. As usual Natalie Portman was simply amazing.

The Adjustment Bureau

"The Adjustment Bureau" was quite interesting. Matt Damon and Emily Blunt had great on screen chemistry; it was fun watching them. The whole the dialog with the agents about "The Plan" reminds me any random conversation in any random big corporation about "The Policy". It is funny how people try to avoid to say "I don't know" (especially when doing it doesn't make any sense). Otherwise agent Thompson is pretty much Lucifer like character; he lies, extorts and uses all dirty tricks to try to accomplish his task; in the end he predictably fails.

Tron: Legacy

Watched Tron's sequel. It is quite good visually and has good production design. The plot has several interesting questions, but is nothing special.

Catch Up

It looks that I haven't written for some time.

Lets see what I missed.

Finished "In Defense of Food". It was interesting and expands on Pollans previous book "Omnivore's Dilema".

Also read Stross's new short stories collection "Wireless".

Saw "RED".

Despicable Me is just pure fun. Something is constantly happening also a lot of slap stick comedy.

Toy Story 3

It is wonderful movie. I greatly enjoyed it and I am glad that Pixar is continuing to outdo themselves each time.

Iron Man 2

More of the same; still it is nice action movie.
I was a bit disappointed by her resignation as CEO at the end, but I guess that Mr. Stark needed his company back.

Kick-Ass

It is quite funny and quite violent movie. I find it amusing that they censured the name on the movie tickets to "Kick-A**"! It is also strange that some people are more roiled by the fact that 11 year old is swearing on screen than her act slicing and dicing bunch of baddies and being exploited by her father and etc.

Alice 3D

Watched Tim Burton's Alice it is quite nice. It is re-using the original Lewis Carroll work; although is done like a sequel and it is visually quite interesting.

Olympian Gods

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief was ok. Quite teen movie; nothing special... still enjoyable.

Avatar

Just watched "Avatar". It is 3 hours long movie, but didn't feel long at all. It kept me fully engaged all the time. Also the sheer scale of the special effects is enormous. Regarding the story I heard comparisons with Pocahontas, the indian wars and etc. I am going to put my fingers in my ears and sing "lalalala lalalala" until those people actually come to their senses and start discussing the actual movie. Yes it uses some old cliches and is predictable, but this doesn't diminish the enjoyment of the story nor it message.

Whip it

Whip it is ok movie. I liked its more naturalistic approach depicting life. Just wasn't taken by the action on screen (not a huge sports fan, sorry).

Generally I like Ellen Page's movies Juno is favorite of mine. Hard Candy is also interesting one.

Where the Wild Things Are

Saw Where the Wild Things Are. I have mixed feeling about it. It is nicely done the animatronic and special effects are top notch. The story is about an egocentric boy with serious anger issues. His mom is quite caring and attentive, but as every working parent has to do other things. Sure he is lonely and craving for attention, but his reactions are quite paradoxical. Her son goes crazy over minimal lack of attention and runs away and goes into a fantasy world etc etc.

It is a strange movie. Will need some think time.

Surrogates

Just saw Surrogates I liked it. It is not earthshaking one, but is still a nice movie. Discussing isolation brought by technology.

Inglourious Basterds

Watched "Inglourious Basterds" over the weekend. I have mixed feelings about this movie. It is ok. Although it was 2.5h movie it didn't feel like it, there was always something happening on screen.
